This fascinating book provides snippets on many "firsts" in American history. From the momentous to the obscure this book provides them all---the founder of the Red Cross to the first American girl scout. The book takes a dictionary-encyclopedia format, listing by the woman's name. My only quibble is the lack of references. I would prefer to have seen acknowledgement of major sources on at least the more well known ladies--especially to encourage younger readers to explore these interesting ladies more.
