Slavery, Sabbath, War, and Women : Case Issues in Biblical Interpretation by Willard M. Swartley Swartley compares the strategies used to support and oppose slavery, keeping of the sabbath and war to the strategies used to support and oppose equality for women. He uses primary sources to detail the arguments from both sides of each controversy. He demonstrates that arguments are suprisingly (and disturbingly) similar, especially in the cases of slavery and women. The books is well documented, easy to read and informative. Though academic in approach, it is accessible to a general audience. The similarity between arguments for continuing slavery and continuing the secondary status of women are alarming.
